Emailers

The essential parts of the communication are the offer in a sentence, a detailed interpretation of what that means for the consumer, the duration of the offer, a link to get started and finally the terms and conditions. We’d get this essential information right and then we’d maybe add in something interesting. I’m being very hopeful but I hope that people enjoyed reading the emails.

I worked on these with Ajay M, our VP of Marketing. We'd send out a couple of these every month and we'd always put in some effort in the copy or the photography or the spacing or the idea. The previous work pushed us to put in that extra little effort  for every subsequent attempt. The last thing we wanted was monotony

Unfortunately, these thumbnail artefacts of the emailers are all that's left :(. There were so many more – all quite distinct in content and structure.

In the moment, you absolutely can not care to archive things. That can't be the lesson here! Maybe it's just not a teachable moment.

The reference point for the emailers is the editing and graphic design in the beautiful emails that I received from MyFonts and FontFont. I’ve been receiving their emails for 5 years and I still look forward to reading them. I can’t say that about most non-personal email. I can’t say that about most personal email either. The pleasantness; the slightly long winding, slightly indulgent layout; balanced by the editorial compactness were the 3 things I liked most and the 3 things I wanted to replicate.

It was fantastic working with Ajay, Ankan, Sunny and Esther. They always had something interesting to say. They are unique individuals with unique views and the feedback was always diverse. It was a quick, reliable way for me to improve the quality of the work. This doesn’t mean that I didn’t send them the occasional angsty webcomic.
